Call them for help! They are so helpful for any obscure or silly question you have about the confusing tax process.
Somehow they managed to lose one of my tax returns even though it was filed in July and I paid the taxes I owed. Their advise was to "file it again as you probably never saved it". This isn't true because I did some research and found a confirmation number from the return in my email so somehow their system messed up but they blamed it on me. When I called back to let them know that I have now filed my taxes for April twice based on their advice and yet their system is still telling me that I haven't filed that April return yet - they let me stay on hold for 10 minutes and then hung up on me because it was approaching the end of the day and I would assume they didn't want to have to take a phone call. I called back immediately and got a gentleman who would ask me a question and then immediately interrupt me while I was trying to answer. He REFUSED to let me speak enough to explain my situation and finally after 10 minutes of asking me questions, interrupting me, and then putting me on hold - he told me to call back tomorrow and explain my question to someone else...how is this possible that these are the individuals who we have to go to with questions? How on earth are we supposed to trust that they are properly dealing with our taxes when they can't answer the simplest of questions?TLDR: - Think of the DRS as the DMV of Taxes and that should sum it up for you
I called for clarification after making a filing error, and wasn't able to explain myself or receive guidance. Instead, the woman repeated (and may still be repeating now) the question "Why you do that? Why you do that?" whenever I began to speak.I had to hang up and call back.
Called to ask a question about employer withholding not being filed and the worker refused to answer anything but the most general of questions and yelled at me (yes, yelled) for not knowing what I was doing. Well duh, that's why I called you! Please don't staff a customer help line with employees that have no desire to help others.
After receiving Form CT-W4P and being totally confused about how to complete the form, I called the CT Department of Revenue Services and asked for help. I spoke with Mike and he was the most helpful and polite person I could have possibly ever asked for. He went through all of my numbers for me and helped me understand and fill out the form. I truly appreciate the help that I received.
